Who is Lou Trammell?
To many in the lary world, it is a familiar name. To the newcomers, not so much.
Lou is the founder of Lary’s Speakeasy. A laryngectomee himself that started local groups in Chicago. He saw a need. A vision for the Lary Community. After starting local groups with the help of some SLP’s including our board member Miriam Alfano and Megan Benjamin his vision grew. He started a FB page for Lary’s Speakeasy. I joined that in 2014. He wanted to create a non-profit to help the needy with supplies that many could not get or afford. He wanted to have educational symposiums to let people know of our existence. To give hope to other lary’s. Unfortunately, we lost Lou this year after a long battle, a warrior that never stopped fighting. He did not win the battle, but he won the war of awareness for us all.
He got the dream of a non-profit with a Board of Directors and Officers that volunteer. No pay like many of the charity organizations you read about. I am proud to be on that team. We have volunteers that help with supply distribution, apparel distribution and ongoing support of communication. Please help us continue this loving legacy. Your donations help us buy supplies, pay shipping, hold educational and informative groups. Help get local groups started. It does not have to be much. Every dollar is put to good use. Help Us, Help you Help Others. We are Compassion in Action.
