What We Do
Welcome, friends!
I started Lary's Speakeasy on Facebook for the members of my first live group meeting, which started opened at Rush University Medical Center on March 17, 2011 so that they would be able to access up-to-date information about their recoveries. For the first few years, we only had 11 members, but as I joined the other Head & Neck FB groups I saw a huge need for more resources for throat cancer folks, so we opened Lary's Speakeasy to the public. We were the only throat cancer group to store information that the members could access time and time again. I became a Lary on 9/8/09. There were no meetings in Chicago that I could find, so I didn't meet another Lary until September of the next year. My only teacher was Webwhispers.com and I made some good friends there. In 2016, Lary's Speakeasy officially became a 501(c)(3) organization. We started this website to give the new patients, caregivers, family and friends a place they can research throat cancer and laryngectomy recovery. We truly hope you find the information you need. If you would like to help other Larys, please read about our Wish List program in the "Donations" tab. Best wishes, Lou |
